Support Periods Overview

Support Periods are an optional feature that lets you offer customers a 12-month guarantee of support, maintenance, and updates thereby allowing you to earn sustainable financial support for the customer support, maintenance and feature enhancement you put into your existing tools.

The Problem They're Designed to Solve

If you've been selling on Superhive for any length of time, you know the pattern. You launch a product, put real work into it, and the sales are good at first. But the income decays quickly, the support requests don't, and you find yourself maintaining and supporting something that stopped generating meaningful revenue a long time ago. Eventually, the math stops working.

The one-time purchase model creates that imbalance by design. Customers get long-term value from your product; you get paid once. Support Periods are built to fix that.

What's in It for You

A Path to Ongoing Income

When a customer's support period expires, they have the option to purchase additional 12 month support periods at a discount off the current product price. That renewal is income you earn which can enable you to continue investing into your products over time.

You set your own renewal rate from four options: 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%.  This rate is the actual percentage of the current product price charged to the customer to add a support period (NOT the rate of the discount). In other words, choosing a 100% renewal rate would charge the customer the full price of the product to purchase an additional support period.

For creators who have built a library of solid products, support period renewals represent a revenue stream that doesn't require you to constantly ship new work just to stay afloat.

Defined Obligations Instead of Open-Ended Expectations

One of the most draining aspects of the lifetime support expectations is that there's no end to it, which makes it unsustainable. A customer who purchased two years ago at a discounted price during a sale can still expects the same support as someone who bought yesterday at full price. Support Periods change that by establishing a clear, fair window (12 months) after which you've fulfilled your commitment.

That boundary is good for you and honest with customers. You can see the support period status of every customer who messages you directly in the conversation thread, so you always know exactly where you stand with any given person.

A Platform That Enforces Fair Expectations

Superhive enforces the terms of Support Periods in both directions. We hold creators to their obligations — and we hold customers to fair expectations too. If a customer's support period has expired, you are not required to continue supporting them, and we back that up. If customers push back on that, send them our way.

How It Works

Support Periods are opt-in on a product-by-product basis. You decide which products participate — there's no requirement to enroll your entire catalog. Products that don't participate are officially as sold "as is," without a platform guarantee of ongoing support or updates.

When a customer purchases an opted-in product, their 12-month support period begins on the date of purchase. During that window, you're committing to:

  • Timely responses to support requests
  • Providing access to any new versions of the product customers purchased

Examples of unacceptable conduct by creators would be:

  • Leaving genuine support questions from paying customers unanswered for long periods of time
  • Releasing new versions of a product in ways which make them inaccessible to past customers (such as a new variant or new product listing without substantial feature changes to support a new product or PRO version)

It is also expected that you make a good faith effort to maintain compatibility with the current Blender LTS version and, as needed but within reason, continue making updates and improvements to the product.

At the end of 12 months, the customer's coverage expires. Everything they received during the period remains theirs permanently. If they want continued coverage, they can purchase an additional support period at your chosen rate.

What You're Committing To

The minimum obligation for any opted-in product is timely support responses and access to any new releases. Creators who don't meet their obligations risk removal from the platform. That accountability is what makes the guarantee meaningful for customers and it's what makes the Support Period worth something as a selling point.

Creators are expected to reply to customers via their Superhive inbox within 3 working days excluding weekends and holidays.  If you fail to meet your support obligations, Superhive may accommodate the customer with an additional month added to their support period.  Superhive may enforce accountability by removing support periods or ultimately revoking creator status.

If you're ever in a situation where you're struggling to meet your obligations, please reach out to us before it becomes a problem. We're on your team and we'd rather work through it with you than jeopardize your work as a creator on Superhive.

Where Support Periods Appear

On your product pages. Opted-in products are clearly labeled, so customers know what they're getting before they purchase. This is a selling point which helps products with Support Periods stand out from those sold "as is."

In messages from customers. Every message from a customer through your Superhive inbox shows their support period status, including how much time remains. You have full context for every support conversation before you even read the first line.
