Guide to Product Ratings on Superhive

Understanding Product Ratings

Product ratings provide valuable feedback about your products while helping customers make informed purchasing decisions. This guide will help you understand how ratings work and use them to improve your products.

How the Rating System Works
Rating scale:
Customers rate products on a 1-5 star scale.

Overall rating: The rating displayed on your product page sidebar is the average of all customer ratings. For example, if one customer gives 2 stars and another gives 4 stars, your overall rating would be 3 stars.
Ratings breakdown: The Ratings tab on your product page shows the distribution of ratings across all star levels.
What ratings measure: Customers rate their entire experience: the product itself and their interactions with you. A customer might love your product but rate it lower due to a challenging support experience. This is why proactive product support and helpful customer service are so important.
Using Ratings to Improve Your Products
If your ratings are lower than expected, review the written comments to identify patterns:
  • Documentation issues: Customers mentioning unclear instructions or missing information? Strengthen your documentation. Check out How to Write Good Documentation.
  • Bug reports: Customers repeatedly encounter the same issue? Gather details about when and how the bug occurs. Encourage them to submit support requests so you can collect more data, then address the problem in your product. Ideally, this would be the first step that happens before they post a product rating, but that is often not the case. Once you have collected some data, head back to your product and do your best to address the bug.
  • Customer service concerns: Customers frustrated with response times or support quality? Even when you're busy, acknowledge their message and give them a timeline for when you'll have a full response. A little communication goes a long way. If you are slow in responding to customers, you can thank them for their patience or apologize for not getting back to them sooner—more tips in Supporting Your Customers.
Making Reviews Work for You
The key to strong ratings isn't just having a great product; it's how you engage with customer feedback. When customers feel heard and supported, they're more likely to leave thoughtful reviews and work with you to resolve issues.
Pay close attention to written feedback. It tells you not just what customers think, but why they think it, and that's the insight you need to make your products better.
